Maintenance plans have a purpose!
Maintenance management software (CMMS software) systems typically have a variety of reports for different purposes. Unfortunately many of these reports provide you no way to measure how well you are doing compared to plan. This is especially important because you want to make sure that the actual maintenance you are doing is as close to what you planned as possible. If not, it means that either the plan has design issues or there is a major problem in implementation that is not allowing you to meet targeted goals. Maintenance plans should be designed to help you reduce unplanned maintenance and equipment downtime. This means lower costs, higher customer satisfaction & less maintenance personnel burnout.
Finding the "health" of your plan
One of the reports we have in FastMaint CMMS is useful to review the state of the maintenance plan. It is called the Work Order Analysis Report. It allows one to compare the average days to complete work orders over similar different periods. The average days to complete work orders represents the average of the difference between work order Completed date & original Planned date for each work order.
